Happy 2013!

Happy New Year to those near and far! Last night, we saw at least 8 simultaneous fireworks displays from our balcony. The air was slightly cool and we made a resolution to enjoy our balcony more.

When I think of 2013, I have this visual of a calendar, with August looming up and begging for attention. In August, we will leave our first post and move to VA for language training. We will spend the next seven months organizing, preparing, visiting favorite places and new ones we don’t want to miss, and always, making new friends and enjoying the ones we already have.

Last year seemed steady. We lived in the same place all year. This year brings to mind the following words: change, travel, excitement, goodbye, reunion, home. Though the DR has become home over the last year and a half, the DC area will always be my true home…and it will be good to return. I think this is my New Year’s photo this year. On the move!

2012 was a wonderful year, and I hope all of us have a similarly fabulous 2013. Happy New Year!

This picture looks so familiar. :) I like your duffle bags, what is the brand? I am packing for Beijing practically as I type this and I am always on the look-out for good luggage.

Happy New Year!

Good point, Linsey, I think I have another photo I will use!
Wow, you are heading to Beijing soon!! How exciting!
They are LLbean duffles, we have 1 w/o wheels and a bunch with wheels. We use the non-wheeled one for our pillows (we have neck problems and need to travel w them) and sheets (I really like having our own sheets when we arrive in a new home) and the others for everything else. I was happy we had 2 or so harder suitcases but we've used the duffles a ton. If you get them don't get the XL size- it's too big for many airlines. L is big enough!
Happy NY!

Thanks so much. We've got our luggage set up for this move, but we always have to replace stuff (thank you baggage handlers!) so I will keep this information in my files. I am hoping that since it is a direct flight from Dulles to Beijing our luggage won't get tossed around too much this time, but I've learned the hard way that might be too high of an expectation!

OMG YES! We are onto Oman this August and that is all I can see when I look at the year ahead. Never mind that we still have 7 months left in Malawi. UI guess that is a curse of the FS. Happy New Years.

I'm still here! Thought I'd write about our vacation to Tulum this past week. The kids' school is off for 'fall break,...
