I'm finding that blogging (and thinking about blogging!) about my home organizing helps to keep me motivated, so if you do not have any interest in this topic, you may want to look elsewhere for the next month or five...
I haven't done much this week, other than wash some maternity clothes that had gotten wet and moldy (yuck) and some winter coats that have been sitting in a bag, waiting to be washed, for just a few mos.
But there's been a lot of thinking and planning going on.
1) Tonight I will stage the basement, labeling boxes as donate, trash, sell, store and move. Hopefully, that will mean that we can just dive in on Sat am.
2) I've been pondering my photo storage strategy. Let's be honest: who among us doesn't have a box or ten of old photos tucked away somewhere? I have a few boxes, plus old photo albums that don't match, and newish photo albums that also don't match. I really dislike photo albums, as they are so bulky, and it bothers me that they are all different.
Here's the plan, I think. Advice/input welcome:
a) The only photos I really care about and would be devastated if I lost are my Mexico wedding photos. My ones from Peace Corps Niger and Dominican Rep are close seconds. I think I am going to send these negatives to Scanmyphotos.com to have them put on a CD.
b) I'm going to pull the photos out of my old albums and store them in photo-safe boxes. I probably won't have these scanned right now, but might do it someday. It's not cheap. But I'd like to get rid of the ugly, heavy albums.
c) I'm going through old photos randomly in envelopes and trashing a lot of those.
d) I'm making photo baby books for my kids.
e) I'm contemplating making a photo book of my wedding photos, so that I can actually look at it, rather than keep it hidden for fear of it being destroyed (which is what I do with the real album I made after the wedding).
I think I'm going to tackle the kids' closet this weekend, too, because this is a quick project I can do in an hour or two. I need a little gratification, as this photo project and the basement are not going to be done anytime soon.
I want to leave you with two great websites I've found very helpful:

You might want to hold on to the negatives. Also check if scan my photos for any difference in price between scanning your photos or your negatives. Some people feel you will get better quality scans from your negatives.
Unclutterer rocks! At some point in time prior to our move from CA to VA, it became the home page on old main pc. I thought it was a hint from my husband to get going with the decluttering...nope (or so he says) just happened by accident.
I have to say, though, having that website pop up the minute I opened safari was very inspiring. I found many great tips and it kept me going through that end of the move.
anon- (why anon?) definitely keeping the negs, just don't want to rely on one set alone. Yes, I've been wondering if I do have both negs/prints, which is better to make the CD from. I'll have to ask them.
jen- I'm pretty sure i got the unclut. ref from you!! thanks!
Oh, geez, I did, didn't I?! See how this move has fried my brain??
