I didn't plan to participate in this week's State Dept Round Up, as I really couldn't think of a way to demonstrate "where I am now." But this week's Round Up is in honor of Jen Dinoia, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has always been so kind and welcoming to me, so I had to find a way. And luckily, this arrived just in time.
As some of you know, A100 attire is business professional- suits every day for 5 weeks. I used to dress like this, 8 years ago when I was a newly minted health care administrator.
And then I had a baby. And my collared, button down shirts just hung out in the closet for 5+ years, rejected every day for more comfortable, non-wrinkled, sweater sets.
So this is where I am right now. Getting ready for A-100. Actually spending a few dollars on my own wardrobe, rather than just the kids' clothes. Getting ready for a new career, while also being a mom and wife, which still means: no ironing. Because while I was having babies, someone invented NO-IRON DRESS SHIRTS! What a genius! (alright, maybe they were around beforehand, but I wasn't paying attention, ok?)
And thinking of Jen, and another friend who spent the last year fighting breast cancer, and winning, just like Jen will.
We packed up the family and joined the Foreign Service in 2011. Currently in: Mexico City, Mexico!

Awesome post! Thanks!
I know what you mean. I used to dress in Dry Clean only and nice fancy clothes. Now that I have kids, it is wash and wear, or if it needs something, hopefully throwing it in the dryer will fix it.
I really like to shirt. Yea for pink.

Thanks for your wonderful contribution!
I bought a plain pink button down shirt when I first started working in Beijing. Turns out the cleaning staff all wore plain pink button down shirts. Made for some teasing. (And yes, I know that, technically, this comment isn't really related to you post. Sorry.)
Changing jobs, and being pregnant in different seasons, made for more shopping that I cared to do! It's nice to get the new stuff though.
No iron shirts are genius! Thank you so much for the support...and still so excited for you!
