Settling into CDMX

I am determined to update the blog this weekend! I really have no excuse; it just doesn't call to me like it used to. But I am not ready to give it up, so here I am.

We are having a ball here in CDMX. Our main problem is that Daddy is not with us yet, but we've been able to see him a bunch. He was just here for a week, which was awesome. These city pics were taken from the top of Torre Latinoamericana in the historical center. We had a wonderful day exploring the center - more on that soon.

Anyway, we are settling in. Our home is mostly put together- still need to hang the artwork and put away a few more boxes. We have wonderful neighbors, including same age kids in our own building! What a treat. The kids are adjusting to school- I can't say they love it, but they have friends and are liking it enough. It's a larger school and I do miss the community of our American school in Guangzhou.

My job is terrific- I have a team of 10 staff and they are all hardworking, team oriented, and really fun. I feel like I hit the jackpot in that regard.

The Embassy is an exciting place to be- something is often happening and I work with colleagues from many different agencies, with tons of experience. I know I will learn a lot during this tour.

There is SO much to do in this city, but I confess that on the weekends, we mostly stay close to home. The kids grumble about sightseeing, though they always have fun once we get out there, and it's more fun with D. But we get out there every now and then, such as our trip to Chapultepec Castle and the zoo.

 We did take two weekend trips, although the stress of driving there was not something I want to repeat. I'm going to wait for D to take any more trips. We've had visits from my brothers and father-in-law, who came to help watch the kids while I traveled to Tijuana for work. We can't wait for some more visitors (hint, hint!).

Xochimilco is a fun day trip with visitors - it's a canal full of colorful boats; you ride, eat, and stop to visit some sights along the way, like a nursery and a snake zoo.

Have I mentioned the food? Like many Mexico City residents and visitors, I'm becoming obsessed with the food. From amazing taco stands to the world's best restaurants, CDMX has it all. I have a spreadsheet of restaurants I've visited and want to visit. This week, we dined at one of the world's top restaurants, Quintonil, and it was exquisite.

Even the kids find the Diego Rivera murals in the National Palace impressive.

 We had a delicious lunch at Azul Historico, where the roof was a canopy of trees!

 Inside that lovely lady in front of me (a skeleton actually) was the most delicious tortilla soup. Such presentation!

So there are a few highlights. Honestly, this city is pretty ridiculously amazing. To our friends and family- don't wait until our last year to come visit! Make your plans now!
